About Us
Lucas Creative Art is a father and son partnership based in Northern Ireland, bringing together two generations of creativity and passion for the natural world. Ken Lucas began his journey over 20 years ago after retiring from a long career in the Civil Service, turning a lifelong love for art and photography into a full-time pursuit. Ten years later, his son Richard joined him, sharing his father’s enthusiasm and bringing his own fresh perspective to the creative process.
Ken and Richard feel fortunate that their love of nature and the outdoors complements their artistic work so well. Their goal is not simply to capture a scene, but to recreate the unique atmosphere and emotion of each place. Every step in the creation of their high-quality Giclée prints—from the original image to the final artwork—is handled personally by them, ensuring each piece is crafted with care and attention.
About Ken
<
Ken’s distinctive style has earned recognition far beyond Northern Ireland, with his prints now enjoyed by collectors across the UK and further afield. Early in his digital painting journey, it became clear that Ken had a natural eye for composition and light, along with a rare ability to convey mood and atmosphere.
His interest in digital painting was sparked while living near the sea in North Down, where evening walks inspired him to capture the beauty of moonlight on water. This fascination led to some of his most popular works, including Pale Moon, Helen’s Bay, and Moonlight Bay. Over time, Ken’s focus expanded to include land, sea, and townscapes in all seasons and times of day. Snow scenes—among his personal favourites—feature prominently in his portfolio, with prints such as Snowfall in the Birch Wood, The Red Umbrella, and Snowy Day, Crawfordsburn. As Ken says with a smile, “When it comes to snowfall, I’ve never really grown up.”
Retirement also gave Ken the freedom to travel widely, both across Ireland and to destinations as diverse as the Scottish Highlands, the Lake District, Tuscany, the Amalfi Coast, Corsica, the U.S., New Zealand, and beyond—ensuring a constant flow of new inspiration for his work.
About Richard
Richard has always shared his father’s passion for photography and digital art. For many years, he balanced this interest alongside a successful career in banking, until 2015 when he made the leap to join the business full-time.
While learning from Ken, Richard has also developed his own distinctive artistic voice. While landscapes remain a core focus, his work also reflects his wider interests in sports, nature, animals, and social life. He’s particularly skilled at evoking a sense of nostalgia, bringing a romantic, almost timeless quality to many of his pieces.
Richard’s first experiments with digital painting were personal—creating artwork from his wedding, honeymoon, and holidays—which quickly gained admiration and led to a growing number of commissions. His talent and unique style continue to expand the creative horizons of Lucas Creative Art.
