About Us

Lucas Creative Art is a father & son partnership. Ken Lucas started the business over fifteen years ago after retiring from a long career in the Civil Service and his son Richard later joined him as he shared his dads enthusiasm for photography and art.

Ken and Richard consider themselves fortunate that their love of nature and an outdoor life sit so comfortably with their creative pursuits. Through their work they endeavour not simply to capture an image but also to recreate the atmosphere of the scene. Ken and Richard personally carry out every step in the production of these quality Giclee prints from the creation of the image to final print.

About Ken

Ken's individual style has become recognised, not only in Northern Ireland but also to an ever widening circle as more and more of his prints travel farther afield. His work received complimentary comment early in his digital painting career when it became increasingly apparent that he possessed a natural eye for composition and treatment of light combined with an ability to capture atmosphere in his scenes.

Ken first became interested in digital painting when he lived close to the sea in North Down. Evening walks by the water's edge invariably left him wanting to be able to capture reflected light, particularly moonlight on water. His prints' Pale Moon, Helen's Bay and Moonlight Bay are among a number in his portfolio from this period. This specific interest gradually widened and progressed until today his work includes land, sea and townscapes by day and night and with the changing seasons thrown in for further variety. Snow scenes are another of his favourites and examples of these include Snowfall in the birch wood, The Red Umbrella and Snowy Day, Crawfordsburn. When it comes to snowfall Ken will readily admit "I have never grown up".

After retiring from the civil service, he had time and the freedom to travel extensively. Apart from touring Ireland, the north of Scotland and the Lake District, both in summer and winter, the Yorkshire dales, Norfolk which he loves for its big skies and bird life he has also visited in recent years Tuscany, the Italian Lakes, the Amalfi Coast, Majorca, Corsica, Venice, Brittany, Provence, Costa Brava, Austria, Switzerland, Australia, New Zealand, U.S.A. and Mauritius. He feels he is unlikely to be short of material for his work.

About Richard

Richard has long shared his father's passion for photography and digital painting and has enjoyed working alongside him whilst maintaining a full-time career in banking. In 2015 Richard made the bold decision to devote all his time to the partnership and left his long-standing role in the Bank of Ireland.

Richard has developed his own personal style and where Ken's focus is primarily on landscapes, Richard's subjects relate also to his own interests which include sports, social events, nature and animals. Richard is skilled in creating a nostalgic effect, based upon the romantic nature of the scenes he wishes to reproduce.
His introduction to digital painting came when he applied the skill to create pictures of his own wedding, honeymoon and holidays. These were greatly admired and commissions for his work followed.
