Donegal is the collection people ask about most. It is also the one we keep going back to with a camera, usually when the weather is doing something interesting.
If you have ever driven the Wild Atlantic Way through the north-west, you will recognise most of what follows. These are the places our Donegal prints come from, and a little of why they made it into the collection.
Fanad Head
The lighthouse at Fanad Head sits on a spit of rock with water on three sides, and the light changes there faster than almost anywhere else we photograph. Early morning and late evening are worth the drive on their own.
Ballymastocker Bay and Portsalon
A long curve of pale sand looking across Lough Swilly, with the hills behind it. It has been voted one of the most beautiful beaches in the world more than once, and on a clear day it is hard to argue.
Dunfanaghy, Marble Hill and Port na Blagh
Sheephaven Bay is the reason this corner keeps drawing us back. Marble Hill Strand for the beach, Port na Blagh for the harbour, and Dunfanaghy itself for the village. Between them there is enough for a whole wall.
Errigal
Inland Donegal is a different mood altogether. Errigal changes colour through the day, and early morning below it has a stillness the coast never has.
Downings and Rosguill
The Atlantic Drive around Rosguill, with Downings at the end of it. This is the part of Donegal that feels most like a holiday, which is probably why these prints so often end up going to people who spent childhood summers there.
How the prints are made
Every print in the collection is produced in our own studio in Northern Ireland. We print, mount and sign each one by hand, so what arrives with you has been through our hands rather than a warehouse.
Prints come in three sizes, and any of them can be ordered with our frame upgrade in black or white. Small framed prints are made to order and delivered. Standard and Extra Large framed prints are collected from our framing partner, Sheldon Galleries in Newtownards, who have been framing for us for fifteen years.
Seeing them in person
If you are in Donegal, a selection of the collection can be viewed in reception at the Shandon Hotel in Dunfanaghy, the Downings Bay Hotel and An Chúirt in Gweedore, and in store at Magee of Donegal in Donegal Town.
